Emergency Preparedness Program |
The Rancho Bernardo Emergency Preparedness Program (RBEPP) was rejuvenated in 1987 by Al Totino and a handful of stalwart volunteers from the community. The program has grown over the years under the leadership of Bob Smith, and it is now considered one of the best in California.
The essential responsibilities of the RBEPP are: to comply with public policy; to advise and assist residents of the seven RB communities, visitors, and local businesses; to be prepared for any natural or man-made disaster affecting the community for the first 72 hours. Also the RBEPP organizes, trains, and equips disaster response teams, including designated Neighborhood Watch members, to provide limited services to the community for the protection of life and property for up to 72 hours.
They cooperate with, and assist all emergency agencies and related organizations; to provide disaster relief to Rancho Bernardo; arrange for personal legal protection and insurance for active and designated members of the RBEPP and Neighborhood Watch as California Disaster Service Workers.
Emergency Preparedness continues to need your help. Volunteers are needed for many different teams, in particular communications (are you an amateur radio operator or have CB experience?), first aid, safety and security, damage assessment, media and public relations, and others. To volunteer, or for more information, call Jim Harmon, EPP Director, at 451-9550.
